My step son begs for hamburger helper and nosotros don't buy a lot of candy food.... And so I made this with whole wheat noodles and "homemade velveeta" ( 8 oz American cheese, iv oz cheddar and 1 1/2 cups milk), and he LOVED it! Nosotros had leftovers and ate information technology the next day, and it tasted even better!

If you lot haven't had Velvetta in twenty years - skip this recipe - yous won't bask existence reintroduced. I was looking for an piece of cake condolement food dish, and saw the five stars so I thought I would try this. I always make something verbal to the recipe the first time and so on the second add together my own spin. Not using Velveeta and making my own cheese sauce might brand it better.
09/12/2013
I gave it 5 stars but considering its very good for what information technology is.. a mac n cheese dish. Information technology is quick, easy and inexpensive and the kids dearest information technology. If judged confronting all foods I'd give it a 3. Only modify to the recipe was that I only had one and 1/ii cups of macaroni and so I reduced the water to 1 and 1/two cups as well. Came out smashing. Loved the one pot deal. My grandson loved it. All was well with the world.

i was looking for a bootleg hamburger helper and came beyond this recipe. i used information technology as a start because i did make some changes but my family unit loved it. I used one lb of ground organic turkey, 2 tsp of both garlic and onion powder, ane qtr onion, 1cup milk and 1cup water and about ii.v cups rotini since i did non accept elbows. i also omitted sour cream since i did not have. i used mozzarella but not a full 8 oz. it was actually skilful and a great alternate to the box. volition def make again and would prob add a veggi like broccoli.
06/17/2013
This recipe has great potential but needs simply a few modest changes. I used V8 juice for near of the water (2 small cans plus the water to make 2 cups). I did non utilise viii ounces of cheese - I think that would be mode overkill. I probably used about four ounces. I don't know that the sour cream added anything. I added a few red pepper flakes to my own portion to add some slight heat. Overall this is satisfying comfort nutrient and tin can exist changed to personal preferences. Thank you!

I'd rather dirty a skillet and my pasta pot and go it in half the time. Cook your pasta while you are browning your meat and seasonings. Drain the cooked pasta so add it to the meat mixture. I'g non a fan of Velveeta, so I used Asadero and cheddar (almost one-half/half in portion). I did not add minced onion, I used french onion dip instead of sour foam at the terminate. Piece of cake and quick.
02/21/2016
Higher marking for quickness and ease. I upped the flavour by using tomato plant sauce in identify of water and a mixture of cheeses, mosteralla, cheddar and pepper jack. Also wheat elbow macaroni. Could still taste better.
05/20/2016
I made it with a few adjustments. I used one cup h2o and 1 cup milk as another reviewer suggested, added a fiddling chip of cheddar cheese, used less onion and seasoned the finished product with more salt as it was a little bland. Turned out delicious, my boyfriend loved it!
12/16/2016
Aye, I've made this for years, but for my taste, I ever add chili powder to it...hence, chili mac!
01/xx/2016

09/twenty/2018
I made this only used a couple of substitutes I saw in the reviews. I made my own cheese sauce (milk and shredded cheese) and used tomato juice in replacement of some of the water. And I added a can chopped tomatoes and chilies. This was a huge success!!!

07/17/2015
Used 8oz of shredded cheddar and 1 cup of milk. Turned out good! If yous desire a cheesier dish add another cup or and so of cheese.
03/28/2020
This was a simple and yummy, no-frills quarantine meal! Similar others, I chose to use one-half velveeta and half freshly shredded cheddar, as well as a splash of milk. As written, withal, I don't see how this is a meal for four - it was perfect for ii along with a salad and bread. Definitely volition keep this in the comfort-food rotation.
02/20/2014
I think perhaps using a little milk or less of the velvetta would assist. Maybe I just made it wrong only it was SUPER thick. It tasted okay just I could literally experience my arteries clogging! Might get in again just definitely going to have to tweak information technology a little.
10/24/2016
I added a flake of cayenne for zip simply it worked out well, the kids loved information technology.
02/08/2016
It was easy and very filling. The seasoning, is a little calorie-free....not a broad range of flavors.....but if you need a good hearty meal in a hurry this volition do.
ten/05/2014
I substituted Johnsonville Italian sausage for the basis beef and loved information technology! I used regular Velveeta and sour cream, non depression fat. I will definitely make again!
03/xiii/2019
I had to substitute some ingredients. I used footing turkey instead of hamburger. I didn't accept onion powder so I added onion soup mix. I made a separate bones cheese sauce because I didn't have Velveeta cheese. I served a side of mixed vegetables with this. 10/04/2015
It was skillful! I doubled the recipe, subbed 1/2 the water with milk, used a cake of cheddar shredded, and added a dash of lawrys. I think I may prefer no sour cream and a bit more than cheese if I made it once more. I loved how easy this was!
12/22/2015
Made this for my boyfriend and his dad; his dad doesn't consume a lot so made me experience good that he went back for seconds. Fast and easy to make. Of class, all though I used all the ingredients, I didn't quite measure anything and concluded upwards with a huge pan on of it. It didn't become to waste matter.
04/03/2018
I used cheddar cheese and mozzarella and fabricated a white sauce first. My son is an adult just he is still a picky eater complains about too much. He asked for mac and cheese with hamburger. He likes the box stuff I don't. Fabricated this almost the same except added cheese in white sauce mixture. This was so flossy and delicious even my son didn't mutter. Asked me to save this recipe so I could get in again. Doubling this recipe was like shooting fish in a barrel and all the same came out the same.
eleven/05/2019

08/06/2020
We made this tonight. We didnt take velveeta nor do we swallow velveeta so I made cheese sauce with cheddar. It was actually good. Kind of similar a macaroni and cheese with beef. The sour cream changes it up a bit to make it more like Hamburger Helper. I did half water and half milk(nonfat) like others suggested. Came out creamy and tasty. I would make it again.
08/06/2015
nothing very exciting nearly it.
09/12/2016
This is proficient comfort food, that I make nearly twice a twelvemonth. I use gluten free macaroni, and this fourth dimension I used a couple tablespoons of dried onion flakes in place of chopped onion. Otherwise I make exactly every bit directed. My only advice when using gluten gratis pasta, is to only melt the pasta for eight minutes full.
12/16/2016
this was so skillful i volition make it again
12/21/2016
Information technology was very good side by side fourth dimension I utilise less macaroni that's why I gave it a 4

xi/18/2015
Quick and easy to substitute noodles to brand information technology gluten gratis
08/25/2019
Very good and easy to brand. I actually cooked macaroni and hamburger separately. When mixing the ii together I added milk. Delicous
xi/22/2018
Was very skilful and super easy!! The only thing I changed was I used iv ounces of Velveeta and 4 ounces of cheddar cheese instead of all Velveeta.
04/03/2018
I used cheddar cheese and mozzarella and made a white sauce outset. My son is an adult merely he is yet a picky eater complains almost likewise much. He asked for mac and cheese with hamburger. He likes the box stuff I don't. Made this almost the same except added cheese in white sauce mixture. This was so creamy and delicious even my son didn't complain. Asked me to salvage this recipe and so I could make it over again. Doubling this recipe was like shooting fish in a barrel and still came out the same.
09/11/2017
Look, this is a solid recipe for sure. My simply outcome is that using the box is cheaper, easier, and tastes nearly the exact same. This recipe is a piddling more natural - but you are still using that processed cheese, which reduces the value of a 'homeade' recipe further. Proficient recipe, but the boxed kits are easier and yous get basically the same thing.
04/24/2020
Could be bang-up with simply a bit more flavor. Mayhap I'll try goop in identify of h2o next time.
12/25/2016

03/12/2022
Besides much macaroni!!! Otherwise it's okay. I should have known every bit I was measuring out the macaroni it was besides much for this recipe. 2 cups must be a typo.
01/18/2017
I used real cheese not Velveta & my kids loved it!
01/18/2017
I added some left over peas. One-half the Velvetta and shredded cheddar cheese.
08/13/2019
I used vegetarian grounds instead of beef and also 12oz normal cheese plus 1-1/2 cup milk instead of velveeta (as another review suggested). I besides added in broccoli before the noodles were done. Very good recipe to go off of.

Fast and easy. Tastes just like Hamburger Helper.
eleven/20/2016
Information technology was easy to brand and tasted skilful but information technology was so heavy/thick.
07/11/2017
I similar this recipe because it'southward versatile and hard to break. I made a lot of changes to fit what I like and what I had on hand. I used a pound of ground beefiness to commencement. I concluded upwardly with about i 1/2 cups of minced sugariness onion and then threw information technology all in. I like the idea of cooking the macaroni with the sauteed onion and footing beef and seasonings considering the pasta absorbs more flavor that way. I used 2 teas. dry out chicken bouillon, a generous few shakes of garlic salt, McCormick Steak seasoning which has diverse herbs, salt and pepper. When the pasta was cooked I threw in a scattering of chopped fresh parsley and 8 ounces of grated sharp cheddar cheese. I don't ever take Velveeta on hand. I forgot the sour cream and it turned out wonderful anyway. I will make again soon!
12/xx/2016
Excellent condolement food supper on a near zero night. Added some sliced Baby Bella mushrooms and served with steamed Green Beans.
12/18/2016
My son doesn't similar to consume meat. He's a carb lover, he eats the breadstuff off his hamburger and walks abroad from the meat. This is a bully way to sneak some lean protein into his diet. And he Loves It!! I swapped ground turkey for beef and organic vegetable radiatore (Trader Joe's) for the pasta. It came out pretty thick, I think I'll sparse it out with some milk adjacent time. I must admit, I really like information technology too...
07/25/2017
Easy dinner that comes together apace. Elementary condolement food! I use a whole pound of ground beef, gluten gratuitous macaroni, and grate a block of extra sharp cheddar (instead of the processed cheese). I also add the optional cumin and chili powder as noted in the recipe. My teenagers love it.
01/22/2014
Delicious
07/18/2018

12/06/2013

A little thick for our liking but It was decent.
03/03/2022
I made this exactly as instructed and was pleasantly surprised. Much amend than the shop bought boxed versions.
I like my cheeseburger mac with a piddling spice, and so i used the Mexican Blend Velveeta cheese and a can of diced chilis to go with information technology.
Plus you tin't take a cheeseburger without bacon, then i cooked up some salary chopped it and added information technology a few minutes before the end of cooking.
will definitely make this again.
03/03/2022
I add some lycopersicon esculentum paste four oz
10/23/2021
One of these stars is for ease. Very trivial flavor to recipe as written. I will utilize this recipe equally a base but definitely needs more oomph! Mayhap a combo of cheeses, or less noodles? Definitely more than herbs/spices. Maybe some garlic and peppers in with the meat and onions. This is a adept option when you need to make a niggling get a long way.
07/07/2021
Yummy! Information technology was great!
11/10/2020
Information technology's a nice, simple recipe that'due south very easy to experiment with, only also tastes neat left alone.
01/25/2021
Itr is so easy to make and my family loved it. i added some shredded mild cheddar and it is really good
02/22/2015
This is way better than the boxed helper meals. Homemade flavor, quick preparation and great served with green beans.

Piece of cake to set and hardy dinner.

02/xix/2014
Does taste a lot like hamburger helper.. Which is good! I had a. Difficult time trying to go along it creamy like I prefer though.
06/xx/2014
I really wanted to similar this. Based on the review of cstock26, I reduced the Velveeta past 2 ounces and mine was still really thick. Absolutely, this was my first fourth dimension cooking with Velveeta. I think the dish tasted like overly processed noodles rather than a dish with multiple layers of flavors. If yous aren't used to eating many processed foods, follow this recipe to step two and then add a homemade cheese sauce.
12/05/2019
I added a can of Rotel and enough water to make 2 cups. This was great with a side of Cornbread
03/04/2019
A little thick and apparently tasting other so that, cracking! Everyone is diff.
01/06/2017
This was good, but consistency was pasty. I forgot to add together the sour cream at the end which may accept helped some. Won't exist making very often--information technology's not a very healthy choice.
12/eleven/2018
Fabricated it, simply with ground turkey and used real cheese shreds instead of processed. Worked out great! I added a little milk to keep it creamy and used real garlic and onion with the powders likewise. Kid likes it, married man likes information technology. Win!
01/31/2017
This was absolutely delicious!! My husband ate a huge plate in less than 5 minutes!! I didn't have plenty velveeta cheese and then I used cooper abrupt cheese and it was withal astonishing!
09/17/2017
Great recipe. Like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I freeze information technology and take it for lunch!
12/eleven/2019
awesome last minute recipe, velveeta shells and cheese was Patently the Exact measurements for the final one-half, cheers pal!
01/28/2017
Succulent and uncomplicated! Cheers!
12/20/2016
Loved it and yes I will make it many more times!!!!!!
09/26/2019
This is the best hamburger mac recipe I have establish so far! I reduced the velveeta to 6 oz, added some milk (about 1/four cup) and cheddar cheese (1 handful), and I added a nuance of paprika and a dash of oregano. My picky son (and pickier husband) loved information technology!
12/21/2016
Used a block of Kraft cheddar and tasted great. Volition make this again!
03/29/2016
I would increase the water a fiddling more next time. Noodles were all the same a little crunchy and ran out of water to cook in so started to chocolate-brown on the bottom of the pan. I also added 1/3 loving cup cheddar cheese at the end before sour cream to make it a little cheesier. It was expert and I would make it over again. My toddlers both loved it!
11/02/2015
Really practiced! Everyone had seconds. :)
